Automation at the Secretary of State's Office

The California Secretary of State's Office worked side-by-side with computing juggernaut IBM in the mid-1960s to create an automated indexing and file retrieval system capable of dealing with a tremendous volume of filings under the state's Uniform Commercial Code.
