Bach Portrait

Publishing company Breitkopf & Härtel used this illustration in 1798 on the cover of the first volume of 'Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung', a musical periodical. This portrait was also published as an individual print. The original was by an artist named 'Gebel', which may refer to portrait painter Emanual Traugott Goebel from Dresden. A pupil of Anton Graff, also a portrait painter, Goebel lived and worked in Leipzig in the 1780s.
