The multi-layered feature and the application of endless knot patterns in the hem is the highlight of this satin jacket in terms of embellishment. Rose-color and moonlight white endless knot patterns appear alternately on the black-satin hem of collar, diagonal button placket and lap, creating an eye-catching effect of movement.
While the endless knot patterns with a yellow ground and blue edges on this garment were done by folding and twining a straight-cut gauze strip, leading to square angles with clear folding traces, the rose and moonlight white knot motifs were created by skillful folding and twisting of a bias-cut satin tape to make round corners without any crease, posing an interesting contrast to the former ones.
Plain and gold couching embroidery techniques were employed for the patterns of crane, flowers and vases on the sapphire-ground cuffs, while couching stitches with black and light blue threads were applied to depict the feathers on the back of the crane.
