Yao Women’s Black Handspun Blouse with Slim Sleeves and Vertical Placket in Dog-tail Outfit Back

The traditional Yao-style dog tail outfit, named for its dog-tail-like belt that hangs from the back of waist, is usually composed of a blouse, a bellyband and a skirt. The back of this handspun blouse applies the applique embroidery, by which the crafters paste cut-outs onto the foundation weave, and then fix them with stitches along the edges of the patches. Six groups of lozenge-shaped appliques with foundation colors of light blue, black and purple are arranged on the back in two rows, three groups in each row with alternating colors. On each of the lozenges there are floral patterns by plain embroidery outlined by circular patterns symbolizing the sun done by chain stitches with occasionally fixed sequins. Hemmed with thin silver threads, these appliques are fixed onto the foundation with yellow chain stitches. As for the palette, red, blue, yellow and green were chosen for floral patterns to illustrate the colorful flowers in bloom in real life while white threads were used for the sun-shaped motif to depict the shiny lights. With vivid forms and a bright palette, these decorative patterns in harmonious contrast with the colorful appliques.
