With a stand collar, a diagonal button placket, wide sleeves with narrow cuffs, this robe is in peach blossom jacquard satin featuring motifs of butterflies and small floral medallions, with the latter also called ball flower patterns literally in Chinese. Satin with a lighter color was chosen for the lining, which has been dirtied and discolored. The decorative patterns are densely-arranged on the outer fabric. While orchid blossoms and butterflies are as vivid as in real life thanks to their ingeniously-designed forms, the small floral roundels scatter around freely, appearing individually or in groups of two or three.
The garment is 135cm in height, with the collar 5cm high, the lap 71cm wide and width between two cuffs 122cm wide when the garment is flattened. The hem of the collar, diagonal placket, side slits, lap and cuffs is embellished with satin strips, which are, from the innermost to the outermost, a 3.5cm wide blue satin belt with floral and butterfly motifs, a 5.5cm wide black satin band with embroidered patterns of flowers and butterflies, and a 2.5cm wide plain black satin strip. There are five pairs of “一” -shaped frogs, one pair on the collar, one pair on the diagonal placket, one pair around armhole and one pair on each of the side slits.
