Campaign token (back)

A familiar souvenir to us today, the elongated coin appears to have been issued as far back as the 1893 Columbian Exposition. The "Indian Head Penny" on which this design was pressed circulated throughout the latter half of the 19th Century, until the Lincoln Cent replaced it in 1909. This particular penny supports Theodore Roosevelt for President in 1904; one can faintly make out the image of Liberty wearing a Native American headdress on the back.
