Bamboo basket "Fuki"

The second Chikuunsai was known for his skill at “rough weaving.” This flower basket woven loosely with Hōbichiku bamboo is called “wamono” (Japanese style) in contrast with the Chinese style “karamono” bamboo baskets. The Hōbichiku bamboo was in the attic for four hundred years receiving smoke from the hearth. There is a sense a depth in this flower basket woven with smoked bamboo that supported human life for a long time.
