The Khalili Collections

This is probably the central part of a banner used in the surreh processions. The name of Sultan 'Abdulhamid II appears above the coat-of-arms and, below it, is the phrase al-muluk mulhamun ('the kings are inspired'). The names of Allah and Muhammad are to either side. The small roundels contain the names of the Orthodox caliphs and some of the Companions of the Prophet.
