The battle of San Martino (June 24th 1859)

Swiss citizen Henry Dunant was present at the battle of Solferino between the French and the Austrians and saw first-hand the acute deficiencies in how the two armies took care of their wounded; he proposed the creation of what would become the Red Cross aid association, and established the guidelines of the Geneva Convention.
