Copperplate print of 'Battle of Arcul' from the 'Conquests of the Western Regions' engraved by Jacques Aliamet after Jean-Denis Attiret, printed in ink on paper in Paris, France; engraved between 1769 and 1774. The eleventh of a series of sixteen copperplate prints made in Paris under the direction of Charles-Nicolas Cochin the younger at the command of the Qianlong Emperor. The prints, which commemorated the emperor's campaigns in Central Eurasia, were sent from Paris to China where accompanying texts were printed with woodblocks. The Chester Beatty has a complete set of these printed battles and accompanying texts: CBL C 1656 to CBL C 1689.
