Battle of Rivoli

PELLERIN19th century

Musée Bertrand
Châteauroux, France

Pellerin works on these prints with the genius of François Georgin. Together, they gradually set up the beginnings of what would become comic strip by accompanying their compositions with a long commentary with a value as patriotic as it was educational.
This plate depicting the victory of Rivoli (January 14, 1797) directly follows Arcole's victory over the Austrian troops who, despite their certain numerical superiority, bow again, in particular to André Masséna who will receive from Bonaparte the nickname ofChild blessed with victory.
