This Century Guild wallpaper shows the ‘Bay Leaf’ pattern in which diagonal branches of bay in shades of light brown overlap each other against a terracotta red background. The group’s ‘CG’ monogram is included in the design on one of the branches. The pattern was designed by Herbert Horne and is emblematic of the group’s style in the 1880s. This pattern was selected to adorn the walls of the Century Guild display at the the International Inventions Exhibition held in South Kensington in 1885.
