Bordering on the shore stands highly preeminent the stately and magnificent Castle of Mona, the summer residence of His Grace most noble John Murray Duke of Athol, Pitular Lord or King of the Isles. Near to this is Mount Stewart belonging to Colonel Stewart and a seat of Mr Heaps which we admired for its neatness and simplicity.' On the sketch is written: "Sketch of the Bay of the Town of Douglas, Mona Castle the residence of the Duke of Athol with Douglas Bank's Howe Head. The Town of Douglas Bearing West by Compass about 1 League. Taken from on board the cutter Westwood. Will Latham, c.1815."
