The sash honouring Joseph Brant features Victorian style raised beadwork of the later 19th century. The only documentation found to date for the sash is a photograph of it being worn by Seth Newhouse (Dayodakane) (1842-1921), an Onondaga man from the Six Nations of the Grand River. Newhouse produced the first written version of the Great Law of the League of the Iroquois in the 1880s.
