Josef Kramer, the commander of Bergen Belsen and previously of Auschwitz-Birkenau, appears in this photograph after his capture by the British. On 17/09/1945 he was tried in the Belsen Trial by a British military court at Lüneburg, Germany. He was sentenced to death on 17/11/1945, and hanged at Hamelin prison on 13/12/1945.
