In 1933 the Nazi party came to power and began dismantling the Treaty of Versailles, according to which the German Armed force, the Reichswehr, was limited to only 100,000 soldiers, split between the Army and the Navy.
In May 1935, with the passing of the "Law for the Reconstruction of the National Defence Forces", the
Wehrmacht was founded, that included the Army, the Navy and the Luftwaffe - the Air Force.
