In 1974 Ralph Belden received a patent for the mechanism on his Swing Bike which allowed independent steering for both the front and back wheel. The bike appeared on the market in 1975 and sold for just three years. Ad copy for the bike boasted: "With Swing Bike, you can invent wacky maneuvers which leave everyone else bug-eyed in amazement!" Unfortunately, the wacky maneuvers often led to spills, crashes, and injuries, which perhaps explains the company's closing in 1978.
