In the 1930s Siemens and Halske, in close collaboration with the German Reichspost, developed a new device which transmitted pictures. With its desktop design, and equipped with the newest technology, this fixed telephotography machine was without question a high-end device. Along with a portable transmitter, which had been developed at the same time, these receivers were the standard equipment for public visual media institutions. Even the press used these new devices to exchange news.
