Kiwis, Penguins or Andean Condor
birds of all shapes and sizes have managed to inhabit the most diverse areas and habitats on Earth. Experts estimate that the Earth is home to 300,000,000,000 (three hundred billion!) birds in total. That is more than there are stars in our galaxy. We currently know 40 orders, 233 families, 2229 genera and 10.438 species of birds, of which 4500 alone are songbirds (Passeri). This makes them the most diverse group among modern birds. The generally fairly small birds seem to originate from Australia and the South West Pacific and then spread North. Songbirds are now found in almost every part of the world – a tremendous success story for Cock Robin and friends.
