Thomas Yeo (1936) graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Broad planes of vivid colours dominate in this bold yet effective composition. This painting is considered to be a mature work of Yeo where it bears the culmination of his years of art practice. Here, the depiction of landscape from above allows the viewer to take in the breathtaking panorama. A sense of compositional stability is attained by his characteristic use of the horizontal and vertical axes. There is a subtleness achieved through the colours chosen, layering and texture, which could be observed from his earlier works in 1970s and 1980s.
