Louis Sextius Jarente de la Bruyère (1706-1788), was bishop of Orléans from 1758 to 1788. He was heading the commissaries and was very influent in the court of Versailles. He was a friend of the minister Choiseul who was disgraced, and Jarente was banished from the court in 1771. He spent the rest of his life, receiving his friends in the castle of Meung, in which he undertook large scale works of renovation.
