Born in Ipswich, Jamaica, Winston Kong studied fashion design in the U.S. before taking a job on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. He set up his own couture business in 1966 and made clothes for individual customers but also carried a small selection of off-the-rack clothes in his shop. Kong closed his shop in 1994.
