As a South African artist based in Cape Town, Dfeat started painting graffiti/street art in 1999 doing murals against rape, crime and drug abuse. Becoming the featured graffiti/street artist in the documentary, by Shamanic organic films in 2002, also being awarded first prize winner at the African Battle Cry 2002 held at the Grassy park civic centre. In collaboration with Mak1ne’s piece, in 2002, he painted with artists from all over the globe held at “The Hall of Fame” at Searle street park in District Six/Woodstock area. Dfeat's "Blackpool series" was used to emphasize community involvement with the rearing of today's youth. The use of sports and other recreational activies is key in keeping the youth of our communities constructively busy, so that there is no time for them to stray into the dark reality of drugs and gangsterism. "A child in sport is a child out of court". The real-life details of his mural, such as street names and the sporting complex was used with the intention that it resonate with the residents of the community, so that they felt a personal responsibility towards the cause.
