Is motherhood the mother of invention? Two moms in Massachusetts noticed their children enjoyed fingering the small loops of satin of which labels and tags are made on their baby blankets, stuffed animals, and other toys. Viola! Taggies were born. The mothers sewed satin tags of different colors and textures around the edges of a blanket; then they added colorful tags to fabric blocks, balls, rattles, clothing, books, and other products. Taggies' promotional literature report that the combination of colors, textures, sounds (of bells and rattles embedded in the soft toys) offer tactile, developmental, and visual stimulation and promote emotional well being, growth, and a sense of security. Other mothers have tagged along: Taggies, though in business for just a decade offers a variety of items--all decorated with colorful tags, and it sells the products in the USA, Canada, Australia, South African, Spain, Japan, and elsewhere.
