A literary anthology that contained lithographic reproductions of manuscripts written and signed by famous authors—including Audubon, Cooper, Emerson, Hawthorne, Irving, Longfellow, Melville, Poe, Stowe, and Thoreau—Autograph Leaves of Our Country’s Authors, was sold at the Baltimore Sanitary Fair to raise money for Union soldiers.

The Bliss Copy of the Gettysburg Address is the second entry in the book, preceded only by Francis Scott Key’s lyrics to “The Star Spangled Banner.”
