In the picture is an undercoat from the end of the Joseon period onto which a ceremonial lower garment is attached for the wearer's convenience. The body of the blue coat, black hemlines, and coat strings are made of raw Chinese thin silk. The neckband is made of unpatterned raw silk. The fabric of crimson lower garment and white waist is raw Chinese thin silk. Originally, officials wore the lower garment over the undercoat after connecting the front lower garment 前裳 (made of three strips) and the back lower garment 後裳 (four strips) as one piece. Near the end of Joseon, however, the lower garment was separated into the front and the back, and both pieces were fixed on the undercoat for the wearer's convenience.
