Many board game manufacturers produced games related to popular topics and titles in young people's literature. One of the most influential early works of fiction is Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe," first published in 1719. Often considered the first serious example of realistic literary fiction, "Robinson Crusoe" inspired many different board game during the late 19th and early 20th century. Since adults often purchased games for children, literary subjects often found their ways onto game boards and box covers.
