After Parker Brothers purchased the rights to manufacture Monopoly from Charles Darrow, sales of the popular game began to skyrocket. Brisk sales during 1935 led to record-setting sales in 1936. American publishers brought out similar financial games, hoping to profit from Monopoly?s fame and popularity. Game producers in Europe and Asia quickly sought permission from Parker to make authorized versions of the game, while less-scrupulous entrepreneurs brought out unauthorized sets.
