Parker Brothers' 1899 board game "The Blockade Runner: An Exciting Game" demonstrates how board game often reflect current events in American History. The game refers to "the late war with Spain," more commonly known as The Philippine War, from 1899 to 1902. Naval battles, most importantly the battle of Manila Bay, characterized this war and The Blockade Runner game demonstrates this. In the game play, one player takes the part of the runner and the other forms the blockade.
