A very clear copyright date of 1888 marks McLoughlin's "Game of Colors." A very decorative box cover design features the strong geometric shapes favored during the so-called "Aesthetic period" of the late 1880s. Manufacturers used such design elements to make the games appear "new." Similar designs appeared in the furniture called "Eastlake." The Game of Colors is a puzzle and strategy game. The player with a playing piece left on the board at the end is the winner.
