Major game manufacturers made board games patterned after important events in popular culture, historic moments, and classics in literature, to name only a few subjects. Games for younger children often featured nursery rhyme themes. "The Little Pigs" carries the subject of the nursery rhyme recognized as "This Little Piggy" in contemporary times. An ancient childrens' poem, it dates from the 18th century at least. The little pig that went to market appears to be illustrated driving a cart on the game box cover. The game play itself resembles a simple version of Parcheesi.
