In 1979 Parker Brothers, in coooperation with then-publisher Time-Warner, produced a board game based on the firm's successful "Mad Magazine." Mad's circulation reached its high peak during the 1970s but fell substantially in subsequent years. Critics feel that Mad filled a cultural, satirical niche during the Cold War years of the 1950s and 60s. Parker produced several versions of this board game since 1979 and this particular example dates from 1988. Parker named earlier versions "The Mad Magazine Game." All of the games feature Mad's colorful mascot, Alfred E. Neuman, on the game's box cover. Game play mimics Monopoly, except the winner is the player who loses all his money first.
