The Strong National Museum of Play

Near the end of the 19th century, board game manufacturers began to produce games with less moral and didactic themes. But these new games still carried a message: hard work will pay off in the end, and financial reward will follow. This marked a change for the game industry, and games continued to change over the years. In the 1930s Monopoly stood as the first game where financial gain, to the ruin of all opponents, represented both the means and the end of the game.
