Superconducting coil; experiment on discharging ultra high voltage in ultra high vacuum; Phillips cryo-generator for hydrogen target

CERN
Geneva, Switzerland

Vacuum cavity constructed at CERN as part of a programme to study high voltage in vacuum. This cavity had, among other things, shown the importance of cleanliness in high voltage phenomena, and made it possible to measure the breakdown delay time during pulsing, and to attempt to detect the micro-particles which could cause the sparking.
