Bomb damage to Lower Market, Exeter

Exeter's Lower Market was built in 1835-6 by Charles Fowler, who had earlier designed Covent Garden Market. During the Second World War, the building was gutted by fire following an air raid on 4 May 1942. The shell of the building stood until 1960 when it was demolished.
