Bedford Circus, an elliptical development of houses and a chapel, was built between 1773 and 1825. A bombing raid on 4 May 1942 resulted in many building in Bedford Circus and surrounding area to be severely damaged by fire. Post-war redevelopment of this part of Exeter led to the demolition of the surviving remains.
