Bookplate design with a rose, thorns and butterflies. Designed by Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo for his wife Eliza D'Oyly Carte. The original design for this bookplate is also in the William Morris Gallery collection (A204vi). The inscription on this bookplate reads ‘keep the sayings of renowned men’ and is taken from the Hebrew Book of Sirach, 39:2.
