This Codd-neck bottle was manufactured at the Mineralwasserfabrik Friedrichsthal. These bottles for carbonated drinks contained a glass ball, which was intended to excite the carbonic acid inside the beverage. The ball was pushed up by the carbonic acid gas so that it held the bottle closed. After pushing it down, the water could be drunk. To prevent the ball from rolling back into the rubber ring when emptying the bottle or drinking from it and thereby closed the bottle again, there were two edges inside that held back the ball. There was another indent in the upper third of the battle beneath the bottleneck where the ball came to a rest when the bottle was stationary and thereby temporarily closed it again. These Codd-neck bottles were filled upside down under vacuum conditions so that the ball was allowed to fall into the rubber ring and the bottle was closed by the high internal pressure.
