Chinese lacquer box and cover. Period: Ming, Yong -lo. Description: Carved red lacquer. Round with straight sides, flat sund base on rounded bottom edges. Deeply carved design of two phoenix birds and chrysantemum flowers; hibiscus, rose, peony, camellia, chrysantemum etc. Interior and base covered with dark brown lacquer. Mark of Yong-lo finely incised, under a deeply cut six-character Hsüan-te mark filled-in with gold. Measures: D. 435mm, H. 85mm. Purchased: Bequest of H.M. King Gustaf VI Adolf, No 2378
