This impressive bracelet comes in two parts. The band proper is made of nine hollow gold tubes welded together to form a single whole. Two lion’s heads form a decorative part that is attached to the band. They are holding a gold ball in their jaws.
The lion’s heads are attached to the bracelet with hinges. The little pinsmay be removed by the wearer, who can then open the bracelet in order to slip it on his or her wrist. The bracelet is a good example of jewelry dating from the time of the Roman emperors: its effect is impressive, but it is usually lacking in refinement.
