The Braided Series' by Latifa Saeed was the result of a year-long process of experimentation and exploration to discover and define a new and current design aesthetic for the United Arab Emirates. Faced with the challenge of how best to channel cross-cultural dialogue towards the creation of new product design, Latifa chose to integrate a contemporary form with characteristic elements of traditional UAE craft practices. The labour-intensive process of weaving is a strong trait across several Emirati crafts, namely safeefa, telli, and sadu. 'The Braided Series' pays homage by intertwining modern fabric to upholster a range of contemporary furniture designs. (Conceived and created during the Tanween design programme at Tashkeel)
