The mid-twentieth century saw the return of the bust as a focal point, enhanced by a variety of bra styles. Overwire breas arched overtop the breasts, rather than supporting them from below. This bra style eliminated cleavage, and was thus viewed as appropriate to wear beneath evening dress with low necklines.
