The urban environment provides very different experiences to different people—the streets that an individual may stroll through without much thought may be dangerous and traumatic for others. The slogan of the project, “never walking alone,” empowers individuals to step outside their personal fears and traumas of the streets. This project seeks to address and challenge the idea of public space and justice in social design, beginning with the question of “to whom do streets belong?” Streets belong to everyone, but not all are included in public spaces. Through a design that is crafted around social justice, the project sheds light onto parts of our society that have been underserved for too long, thus expanding individual perspectives and taking first steps in healing traumas.
