C-SPAN Executive Brian Lamb tells of working on an initiative for Richard Nixon’s 1968 presidential campaign where he traveled around the country recording voters speaking about their concerns. The tapes of the voters were supposed to be sent to Nixon and his running mate, Spiro Agnew. However, Lamb soon became disillusioned with the project:

“I said, ‘Is there any proof that Nixon and Agnew listen to all this stuff that we're recording?’… The answer was that we take all those tapes and take the best off of it and put it on one reel and ship it to Agnew and Nixon. Not happening. That was not happening. Let's put it this way: if they shipped it to Nixon and Agnew they didn’t listen.���
