A stove is a heating apparatus which uses coals or briquettes for fuel. Its use is similar to that of a brazier. Briquette stoves came into wide use as briquettes became the main fuel in ordinary households. Briquettes were favored due to their high thermal efficiency and long usage durations, though they were difficult to initially ignite. Briquette stoves were made for cooking as well as heating. The briquette stove shown here is composed of a cylindrical frame and a rectangular bottom connected to the frame with iron rods and nuts, and has four casters. The stove has a fire controller in the lower part and accommodates two briquettes. Briquette tongs are made by attaching two iron bars in a cross and are used to pick up briquettes. A pair of tongs was used to place briquettes in and out of the stove. Its handle is oval-shaped and the end of each tong is ㄱ-shaped.
