John's Father was in tea as was Simpson's Grandfather who served for Queen Victoria. John's father was an East India merchant. John was posted to Burma after the war, but on route in Cario the Atom bombs were dropped on Japan resulting in their surrender on 15th August 1945 and he was diverted to Palestine. After the war, in 1948, he had left the army so he went to work for Williamson Magor & Co. Limited in Assam who had a long history in tea business dating back to the year 1868 and is considered to be one of the pioneers of tea business in India. It was whilst working in nearby Assam and staying with friends in Shillong that he met Christina's mother.
