The Industrial Revolution began during the British Empire time. The change of power source from charcoal to coal brought a transformation for dig method of the coal, and using the steam engine for drainage pump became a practical way to exhaust the groundwater which collected in the coal mine during the procedure.The improvement of this steam engine and its application support the invention of a steam locomotive and the steamship. This great change of industrial structure made the industrialization progress rapidly.

  • 作品解説 / Object Note (Japanese): イギリスで始まった産業革命。木炭から石炭への動力源の変化は、石炭の採掘方法にも変化を与え、その際に炭鉱に溜まる地下水を排出するために、蒸気機関を用いた排水ポンプが実用化された。この蒸気機関の改良及び応用による蒸気機関車や蒸気船の発明等に伴い、産業構造が大きく変化し急速に工業化が進展した。
