Bronze Mortar and Spoon

Yangzhou Museum

Yangzhou Museum
Yangzhou, China

Unearthed in Tangzhuang village, Liuji town, Yizheng city in 1964, these two practical daily life utensils, though unadorned, have a smooth, lustrous surface and a decorous shape as a result of high-level casting techniques. The mortar has an oval opening, under the rim of which are two parallel thin lines, a bulging belly and a flat bottom. The spoon has an oval bowl, and a long, slim, naturally curvy handle.
