The study of medicines in al-Andalus acquired great development. The interest of the Arab science for the pharmacological matter, joins into the wealth of the Iberian Peninsula in flora and fauna used for elaborating medicinal compounds. The Andalusian pharmacies were full of the necessary equipment for elaborating of medicines, such as stills, flasks, pots or morters. The mortar was a piece widely used in the pharmacies of al-Andalus. It was used to mash or grind the components necessary for the manufacture of drugs.
