This vase imitates the shape of a tube of jade called a cong which was carved by people of the Liangzhu culture in the Neolithic period. The mouth of the vase is small, the body is square, and the foot is round. The four sides of the body of the vase have sectional grooves in an alternating pattern, which suggest the complementarity of heaven and earth. Convex and concave parts corresponding to the grooves on the outer surface can be seen on the inside of the vase.
